Lindsey Gapinski

Lindsey Gapinski joined the Chalfoun lab as a Ph.D. student in 2024. Her research interests include quantitative methods, avian ecology, community dynamics, and long-term datasets. Through her doctoral work, she is exploring mechanisms underlying declines in forest-dwelling birds of the western United States at different spatial and temporal scales. She leverages existing data sources (e.g., North American Breeding Bird Survey, Landsat) to codify abundance trends of western forest birds and to test alternative hypotheses about why many of these species are in decline. Lindsey received an M.S. from Iowa State University where she studied bird use of restored wetlands in a highly agricultural landscape. She also earned a B.S. in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota, which is where she first became interested in studying birds. In addition to Wyoming, Lindsey has worked with the Co-op Units in Minnesota and Iowa. Outside of work Lindsey enjoys hiking, birding, reading, running, and re-watching her favorite movies.
