Two MS positions available in Walters lab

Two M.S. graduate research assistantships are available within the Wyoming Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit in association with the Department of Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming. Please specify in the cover letter whether you are interested in one or both positions:

  1. Yellowstone cutthroat trout hybridization: We are seeking an independent and motivated individual to identify and evaluate mechanisms that maintain pure Yellowstone cutthroat trout in the North Fork Shoshone River drainage despite potential for hybridization with rainbow trout. Project is in collaboration with Drs. Katie Wagner and Elizabeth Mandeville at University of Wyoming.
  2. Snake River cutthroat trout redd counts: We are seeking an independent and motivated individual to evaluate the relationships between redd counts and spawner numbers, spawning success, and fry emergence in spring creeks in the Upper Snake River drainage. Project is in collaboration with Dr. Robert Al-Chokachy at Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center.

The successful candidates will work closely with the primary investigators and Wyoming Game & Fish Department, and will oversee all aspects of the project including study design, field technician hiring and supervision, data management and analysis, and the preparation of manuscripts to be submitted to peer-reviewed scientific journals. Anticipated start date is fall 2018.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, ecology, biology, or a related field. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required.

Stipend:  $1342/mo. plus tuition and health benefits
